Tennessee House Speaker Beth Harwell earned the first major endorsement in the Republican gubernatorial race Friday when she won the support of the Tennessee State Employees Association, a 40,000-member strong association.
“I am so honored and grateful to receive the endorsement of the TSEA,” Harwell said. “I enjoyed the endorsement process and the opportunity to interact with TSEA. This is an organization that I know well, and I also know from first-hand experience the value our state employees bring to public service every day, and I applaud their commitment to help make Tennessee government run effectively and efficiently. TSEA has always had an open door and listening ear from me, and that will continue when I am governor.”
Harwell won the group’s support over Republican opponents Randy Boyd and Bill Lee. The endorsement process was extensive with an in-depth questionnaire for candidates and in-person interviews with representatives of TSEA.
The endorsement comes during a week when Harwell demonstrated her unique readiness and talent to be governor before a statewide forum with other candidates at Lipscomb University in Nashville.
